New Year’s Eve is about spectacle — and downtown St. Pete just got a lot more spectacular! Jannus Live is the place to be to bring in a rockin’ 2012.  Cheap Trick will perform a lavish production of their classic Dream Police album — plus all their hits — accompanied by an 18-piece orchestra and choir, situated above the stage.

Cheap Trick’s Dream Police, which earlier this year enjoyed a sellout run of dates in the Midwest and at The Greek in Los Angeles, will require Jannus Live to reconfigure its already-expansive stage to accommodate the band’s truckloads of sound, lights and effects. The result will be a multi-sensory spectacle.

“This show is as great as The Who performing Tommy,” enthused Eddie Trunk of VH1’s That Metal Show. “We’re barely into the second month of 2011 and I’ve already seen a show that will be tough to beat as the best show of the year,” said Ken Sumka of Chicago’s 93XRT.

In addition to performing Dream Police in its entirety, Cheap Trick will play a generous portion of their rich, platinum-selling catalog, including hits “I Want You to Want Me,” “Surrender,” “The Flame” and others.

In 1979, after a string of four platinum albums, Cheap Trick closed out the decade with the masterful Dream Police, which pumped up its bedrock catchy power-pop with ambitious orchestrations. Bringing it to the stage is no small feat, but on that the band has embraced and turned into a truly stunning experience.

Tickets for Cheap Trick’s Dream Police are on sale at Ticketmaster, jannuslive.com or at Jannus Live’s ticket outlet at Detroit Liquors on Central Avenue in St. Petersburg. Early bird tickets are $100 — includes all you can drink — for a limited time only.

dave suiter 1:36 pm - 29th November:

At least they are offering so0mething and who said you could not share the evening with a couple of stages and entire line up that still can belt out the tunes like it was yesterday back in the room.A hundy is steap but your surrounded by buildings and people should be the best place to be New Years eve.

Rochelle 4:59 pm - 2nd December:

Livingsocial.com had 2 tickets to Cheap Trick for $100

I missed out on that deal . . . : (

I hope they will bring it back or I can’t go . . .

LollyS 4:15 pm - 3rd December:

Well, the tickets, airfare and hotel will be over $1500 but you know what? Totally worth seeing Cheap Trick ring in the new year again.

Scooter 2:10 pm - 8th December:

Wow. $100.00. Really??? In this economy? I know it’s all you can drink but can’t they offer a ticket without the alcohol? I’d pay $40 for that. If everyone has all you can drink you’ll miss the concert waiting in line for booze. I can’t drink all night then drive all the way back up to Pasco county without getting a D.U.I.. Too bad I’d love to see the show. How ’bout a booze free ticket people?

Rhonda Key 11:27 am - 10th December:

What is the time frame to putcase and qualify tor the earlybird all you can drink special? I purchased 2 days ago, will that qualify?

SanDiegoRon 11:39 am - 11th December:

I saw Cheap Trick in 1980 New Years night at the California Theater with an open bar and it was the best New Years of my life. Worth every penny for those still thinking about the money aspect. Being the new kid in town in the swamp I’d go again if I could find a date in this state.

Tampa Tom 8:16 pm - 12th December:

Not sure if it is 100% true or not, but I heard from a friend that Brian Johnson from AC/DC will be there too! That would be soooo sweet!!! The ticket is a great price w/ free bar alone on New Years Eve, but add in Cheap Trick & AC/DC?!?!?! This is gonna be amazing! Can’t wait!!! Thanks for bringing this show to town!

Randy 7:38 am - 15th December:

I’m getting my tickets today! Even if Brian Johnson doesn’t make it, I know it’s gonna be a good, safe crowd with no b.s. to deal with. Everywhere else turns into amateur night. Can’t wait!!

Thomas 8:17 am - 15th December:

I heard Matt “Spice” say on the Bubba Show this morning that they are giving away some tickets on the radio on 102.5 The Bone. Can’t wait for this show, it’s gonna be a fun night.

Flying 1500 miles just to see Cheap Trick on NYE! Can’t wait!!! Going to be the best NYE ever! I love you Robin!!!

Tom 11:31 am - 31st December:

This is going to be a New Year’s Eve the likes that Dreams are made of!!! From what I’ve read the stage theatrics @ Jannus look poised to surpass those of Cheap Trick’s 1999 Silver Anniversary concert in Rockford, IL (and that was one FREAKING great performance……live or DVD!!!) I’ve been a serious Trickster since the 1980′s, and seeing Robin & Co. ring in 2012 (seeing them for the almighty 10th time) is too incredible for words alone :)

Andy 3:31 pm - 31st December:

Tonight! Tonight! I’ll be with ya tonight…. And as for the ticket price, it’s simple economics. There’s an 18-piece orchestra, a choir, and two (maybe three) additional musicians. This is all so they can recreate the orchestration of the Dream Police record and do some other stuff from their catalog that is heavily orchestrated. So, since Jannus holds, maybe, 1500, a sellout is $150K. When you think it’s gonna cost about $100K just for logistics (20+ musicians gotta be paid, put up in hotels, fed, etc.), the road crew is huge because the stage is very elaborate, etc. Given all that, $100 ain’t bad and if you can afford it and still choose to skip it, you got nobody to blame. Prolly the only time you’ll get a chance to see this.

rockitman 4:21 pm - 31st December:

Rockitman will be there backstage passes priceless

Paul 12:02 pm - 2nd January:

Well, i went to the show and I have to say I was very chagrined by a couple of things. FIRST, Jannus dropped the price from $100 to $65 (no liquor) or $75 with liquor, but would not exchange the tickets.

Now, to make it worthwhile, the doors were to be opened a 8 pm — plenty of time to drink before the show. but guess what? They didn’t open until 9 pm!! People like me had been there for hours and we were PISSED! It was actually getting to be a bit ugly and unruly! I believe Jannus did this to SAVE $$! as long as we were outside, nobody could drink!

And then, they had too few drink vendors. Standing in line took 15-20 minutes to get a drink, and since we were there only after 9 pm, it was hard to get more than one drink before the show started! and when the show started, there was no way to get BACK to where we were standing in front of the stage with our drinks, without pushing and getting dirty looks from people who thought we were cutting!

all in all, it was a GREAT concert…but I would never go back to Jannus for that kind of deal or that kind of cost!

We were incredibly irritated, as were a lot of people!
