He’s been called a “less smarmy John Mayer,” been compared to Stevie Wonder, Randy Newman, Beck, and you can hear a decided hip-hop influence. That’s a big range, yes, but it also speaks to the wide swath cut by the music of Clarence Greenwood, aka Citizen Cope. The unifying thread of it all is that the music is intelligent and oozes emotional resonance. The Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter has built a durable career as an in-demand concert act who attracts fervent devotion from fans.
Greenwood was raised in Washington D.C. His hometown newspaper, The Washington Post, dubbed him “the city’s most soulful expert since Marvin Gaye.”
Because of his genre-defying approach, Citizen Cope endured several tumultuous years in the major label wringer while continuing to grow his touring base. In March of this year, he released the first album on his own Rainwater label, titled The Rainwater LP.
Jannus Live is proud to present Citizen Cope to his diehard cadre of fans.
