Coming in May:
Back in its heyday, Jannus Landing was probably the premiere venue for reggae in the Tampa Bay area. The new Jannus Live comes out of the box looking to establish itself as a reggae hotspot — starting with a killer double bill of Third World and Barrington Levy.
Formed in 1973 in Jamaica, Third World has been one of the most enduring reggae bands ever. The group has always comingled pop and R&B into its sound. And Third World boasts one of the biggest crossover hits ever by a reggae band, “Now That We Found Love.” Their infectious song “Try Jah Love,” was also a pop hit. The group has scored 10 Grammy nominations and won a U.N. Peace Medal
Long-revered reggae and dancehall artist Barrington Levy is known among reggae enthusiasts as the “Mellow Canary” for pure, soulful voice and pop sensibilities.
