Here’s something to lighten your step in the thick of the summer slog days: The Friday the 13th Voodoo Ball & Downtown Bar Crawl. A bar hop followed by a free concert at Jannus Live featuring Rude Squad (below), UnMotivated and Paint The Town Red. With prizes, man. PRIZES!

The event is guaranteed to be a great party and enhance the overall esprit de ‘burg. Here’s how it works:

We’ll gather at the Pelican Pub from 5-6 pm, from whence we’ll set out to hit four sponsor bars within easy stumbling distance — Crowley’s, The Rare Olive, Bishop Tavern and Durty Nelly’s — for a half-hour apiece. The libation procession will be led by the Jannus Witch Doctor in full regalia.

Sufficiently lubricated, we’ll then gather at Jannus Live for the evening’s live rock ‘n’ roll entertainment. The show starts at 8(ish) with Paint the Town Red, a spunky acoustic/alt/punk duo made up of Eric Best and Justin Vilardi. Next up at 8:45(ish) is UnMotivated, a fun-loving six piece influenced by Sublime, Marley, Pepper, the Chili Peppers and more. Closing the debauchery out, starting at 10:15(ish), will be Rude Squad, a roughhouse ska-punk outfit that’s set many a crowd on its head during their celebrated career. Also part of the festivities is a DJ To Be Named Later, who’ll stoke the party fires between sets and after the show.

But wait, about those prizes. We’re working out the details. We’re recruiting other sponsors — Foolish Pride Tattoos is already in — and will be formulating the prize packages in the coming days. Watch this space. We promise it won’t be dollar-off coupons to Wendy’s. Real prizes, folks. Promise.
