GULF COAST SURF REPORT GULFSTER.COM ANNOUNCES FREE CONCERT TO CELEBRATE 10TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY.
Gulfster.com, the widely visited Gulf Coast surf report site, is set to celebrate its 10th year in business on Saturday, August 11 at Jannus Live. The free, all-ages, concert will showcase five of the most popular Florida bands of the Reggae/Rock genre, feature the surf videography work of Tony Coleman, and offer giveaways to attendees both by Gulfster.com and local area surf shops. The band line up is as follows: Resinated, The Sheffield Crew, Kayavibe, Sidereal, and The Crazy Carls.
Gulfster.com began as the joint effort of local surfers Ryan Clapper and Dan Putnam – on July 17th, 2002, after a surf-friendly winter season on the Gulf Coast. That same year the entire surf industry enjoyed a major boom after Hollywood released the surf-centric blockbuster “Blue Crush.”- Ryan recalls, “Everyone and their mother wanted to surf, everyone hit the shops to buy a board, get surf lessons, etc.” Then in the summer of 2005 the Gulf experienced a massive string of hurricanes, bringing widespread attention to the reports and photos that the site was publishing online. Ryan notes, “As the storms went off, so did the traffic. If there’s a hurricane in the Gulf, the whole world’s logging on.”
This past year the company has entered into a whole new chapter with Gulfster Presents, the concert and event production arm of Gulfster.com. Dedicated to bringing the Gulf Coast the best in concerts and events that celebrate surf culture, Gulfster Presents has already made a big splash in the local area with The Reggae Sunday Spring Concert Series at Jannus Live this past April. Along with Tommy Daniels’ dedication and consistency in managing the daily report from Anna Maria Island, the forecast is looking quite swell for Gulfster.
The 10th Year Party will be held at Jannus Live in downtown St. Petersburg on Saturday, August 11th, with doors opening at 7pm. For more information visit www.gulfster.com.
