Time to rock your body ol’ school when Lisa Lisa and Rob Base bring their vibrant, booty-shakin’ party to the Jannus Live stage. Some of you may remember the late 1980s, when hip-hop was gaining steam (but not losing its innocence) and dance music in general was in a major resurgence.

Lisa Lisa (Lisa Velez) came out of New York City with a sultry look and loads of charisma. She was part of a scene dubbed “freestyle” or Latin hip-hop, but hers was a spunky, melodic style that quickly crossed over from dance clubs to Top 40 radio with blockbuster hits like “Head to Toe,” “Lost in Emotion” and “All Cried Out.”

About the same time, Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock came blasting out of Harlem, innovators of a dance-friendly hybrid that came to be known as “hip-house.” Their single “It Takes Two” was an absolute monster smash and is still revered by hip-hop aficionados. More hits — “Get on the Dance Floor,” Joy and Pain” and others — followed.

Whether you’re a child of the ’80s or someone who just appreciates catchy music with an irrepressible, move-your-body beat, this double bill of timeless dance music is sure to please. DJ Sandman and Erick Velez will spin and keep the party hot.

The low-dough show is priced at $12 advance, $15 day of show. Jannus Live just made May’s First Friday that much better.
