Suenalo!

Friday, September 17

w/Shake Mode/Indigenous Ways/DJ Leftover

Admission $5, available at Detroit Liquors, Daddy Kool Records or at the gate.

One of Miami’s most celebrated bands, ¡Suénalo!, headlines this lively lo-dough show.

With a sound that vividly reflects the different cultures that shape the Magic City, ¡Suénalo! members — all nine of them — hail from Cuba, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, the U.S, and Venezuela, and they mix a wide variety of styles that result in a genre that defies classification, but could comfortably be described as Latin Funk.

HipHop, rock, R&B, Afrobeat, cumbia, reggae, soca, salsa, and drum ‘n’ bass are some of the styles intertwined in their music. ¡Suénalo! is often described as “the essence and sound of Miami.”

Throw all the genres, subgenres and adjectives in a blender, flip the switch and it comes out…

PARTY!

Shake Mode

The much-loved Tampa Bay band Shake Mode will add further punch to the bill. Their relentless assault of rock, reggae and punk has built them a loyal fanbase, and already endeared the band to a packed house at Jannus Live.

Rounding out the evening live music is a newly formed Tampa group called Indigenous Ways, which blends hip-hop with rock and skews toward a challenging, experimental sound. Spitfire raps, funky beats, raging guitar solos, horns and dub effects all reside harmoniously in Indigenous Ways’ sound.

Spinning between sets and after hours (midnight-3 am) will be DJ Leftover.

Jannus Live would like to thank sponsors the Red Mesa Cantina, which will host an after-party, and thebestofstpete.com.
