There’s been a lot of chatter about what’s going on with the Rusted Root concert on Sunday. So let’s clarify a few things. If you know anyone who has tickets or doesn’t have tickets and is amped for the event, please pass this along to them:
• Yes, the show is free, but we issued tickets — through Ticketmaster and at three locations: Detroit Liquors, Pelican Pub and Daddy Kool Records. My understanding is that all of those tickets have been grabbed up, but it might be worth a call or drop-in to see if there are any leftovers. The online tickets “sold out” in less than a day. Why tickets for a free event? For better crowd control and to get a run-through of our ticketing system, mostly.
• The doors open at 6 p.m. Music starts at 6:30. We have two very strong local openers: Fall on Purpose and Bleu Gravy.
• We are going to honor ticketholders admission first — but only up to a point. If it gets to be, say 7:30, and there’s still room in the courtyard, we will issue a limited number of tickets at the box office and start letting folks in. So the upshot: If you are holding a ticket, it’s not in your best interest to come late. We intend to fill the courtyard with folks who want to see Rusted Root for free at our way-cool venue — so latecomers, tickets or not, could possibly get shut out.
• If you don’t have a ticket, we obviously cannot guarantee you admission. But if you’re really hot to see the show, it might be worth coming down to the venue and seeing what transpires. I have no idea of whether you will get in, but I can say that there’s a chance you will.
• That’s about as good as we can do. There’s no perfect way. If you’re holding a ticket and come strolling in at 9:30 or 10, that prevents a person waiting outside from getting in. So we’re going to allow that person waiting outside to enter Jannus Live at a reasonable time, if the crowd size permits.
• There is one other admission alternative: You can buy a wristband to the balcony VIP area for $20. They will be available at the box office while they last.
• We hope you understand that we’re not trying to be hardasses, just as fair as we can be to everyone.
See you there

I missed out on the free tickets, but I’ll be there waiting and hoping to get in. I really want to see this show! Glad to see you are booking good shows again, and look forward to what the rest of the year brings!
I went to the Molly Hatchet/38 Special Show and the acts and the new venue are awesome. Great job Jannus Live!!!
That is so not right. Having to order the “free tickets” and pay svc fee was the right thing to do, there needs to be order. But people should not be dictated what time they should enter the concert. The main attraction is Rusted Root and if some people just want to see them and they have their tickets they should not be denied.
I understand your concerns, but we had extensive discussions about this, and the other argument is: If there are a couple hundred people w/o tickets who come down early and hang around, and there is space inside the courtyard, at some point we feel it’s fair to let them in. If you are holding a ticket and come down late, we will do everything we can to honor that ticket and let you in. If, however, the venue is full per the fire marshall, we would not allow admission.
so, what if i dont’ have a ticket. can i buy a VIP wristband and get in, or do i have to have a tix and then buy the VIP wristband?
We’ll have VIP wristbands available at the main gate and VIP gate on First Ave. No. You do not need a ticket, but there are a limited number of wristbands available.
Is the show Rain or Shine?? Weather not looking good…60% chance.
rain or shine, yes

Mangement/owner > I believe the real reason for allowing early entrance is – admit it – for booze sales!! C’mon man. I understand from a maximizing profit/owning a business perspective (new one at that) and I am a capitalist #1. But it is not morally right to have someone PAY for a “FREE” ticket and be denied entrance later in the evening… because they arrive only when Rusted Root is on. What does it matter the reason for showing up then? Maybe someone had car trouble? Not a good start guys – been coming for 20+ years too.
I really want to go and do not have a ticket. If anyone has an extra please, please email me!!!
